Neurodivergent people, including people with ADHD and autism, may carry trauma from years of being misunderstood, corrected, excluded, overwhelmed, or pressured to mask who they are.
Experiences such as sensory overload, social rejection, academic or workplace criticism, bullying, chronic invalidation, or being told they are “too much,” “lazy,” “rude,” or “not trying hard enough” can leave lasting emotional imprints.
EMDR can help neurodivergent clients process painful experiences connected to ADHD, autism, masking, rejection sensitivity, sensory overwhelm, and shame-based beliefs such as “I’m broken,” “I don’t belong,” “I have to hide myself,” or “I can’t trust.”
Treatment is structured, collaborative, and adapted to the client’s nervous system, communication style, sensory needs, and pace.
